Sorry for the long hiatus! We’ll be back soon!
With Thanksgiving just a week away, many of us are traveling home to be with loved ones to celebrate. When I think about the holiday, I always remember cramming into a car to spend the day or a few days with my great-aunts and uncles in Sacramento, and having a fantastic dinner my dad made. As I got older, I started actually thinking about the word thanksgiving, and what it meant.
So GY would like to know, what are you thankful for?
There are many Scriptures with the word “thanksgiving” in it. Probably the most well known is Psalms 100:4:
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
Another great one is Philippians 4:6;
“…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
Here’s a less well known, but equally great Psalm;
The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me;
to one who orders his way rightly
I will show the salvation of God!”
—Psalm 50:23
Reading these reminds me that God wants us to thankful in all seasons, not just one day a year. My prayer for the youth is that we would be rejoicing in all things every day, especially the days when we feel like giving up, like we have no one, when it feels like we have nothing to be thankful for. Those are the times when God wants us to be thankful the most.
Happy Thanksgiving!
